Privacy policy

LottoSelect is a statistical analysis tool for Canada's national lottery games, Lotto 6/49, Lotto Max and Daily Grand, available for Mac, iPhone and iPad. This policy explains what happens to information in the app and on this website.
The short version. The app collects nothing about you, and everything you record in it stays on your own device unless you switch on device sync, which copies it to a folder you choose.
What the app collects
Nothing.
There are no accounts and no sign-in. There is no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind. Nothing you do in the app is measured, profiled, transmitted or reported to us or to anyone else, including the numbers you pick, the tickets you record, and how often you open it. We have no servers, so there is nowhere for such information to go.
Where your information is stored
Your tickets, groups, contributions, ledger entries and settings are all written to a folder on your own computer or device, and stay there. Nothing is ever uploaded, synced to us, shared or sold. We have no ability to see it.
Because your information lives only on your device, deleting the app deletes it. Export anything you want to keep first. If your device backs itself up through iCloud or a local backup, that backup is governed by your own settings and by Apple's privacy policy, not by this one.
Draw results and internet access
The app makes one kind of network request of its own. To show current results, it downloads the publicly published results pages for the games it analyses from the official lottery results website.
That request asks for a public web page and nothing more. It sends no tickets, no settings, no account and no identifier for you, because none of those exist. As with any request to any website, it does reveal your device's internet (IP) address and the app's name and version to that site, which is unavoidable in fetching a page, and is how the web works. What that site's operator records about the request is governed by their privacy policy, not this one.
Nothing returns to us from that exchange. The app communicates with that site directly; we are not part of it and receive nothing.
You can turn off automatic refreshing in the app's settings, in which case the app makes no request of its own until you ask it to.
Keeping your devices in step
Device sync is off unless you turn it on. If you do, you choose a folder, and each device writes one file of your own records into it: your tickets, your groups, your saved sets, recorded prize amounts, your settings, and the draw history the app has fetched. Nothing is sent to us; we never see that folder and have no ability to.
Two things are worth knowing before you turn it on. A group's roster carries the names, and any contact detail you typed, of the people in it, so choose the folder accordingly. And if the folder you choose sits inside iCloud Drive, Dropbox or a similar service, then those files are stored and moved by that service under your own account with it, and what happens to them there is governed by that service's privacy policy rather than by this one.
You can stop syncing at any time. The files already written stay where they are, for you to keep or delete.
Purchases
The games add-on and the Groups add-on are sold through the App Store. When you buy one, or restore a purchase you already made, the app asks the App Store whether that purchase exists; Apple handles the payment and tells the app only whether the item is owned. We never see, receive or store a payment detail, a card number, an address or an Apple Account. What Apple records about the transaction is governed by Apple's privacy policy, not this one.
Notifications
Draw reminders and ticket expiry alerts are scheduled by the app on your own device. They do not use a push notification service. No device token or identifier is registered with Apple, with us, or with anyone else. If you decline notification permission, nothing else in the app changes.
Exports and sharing
When you export a CSV file or a report, it is written to the location you choose and goes only where you send it. Nothing is transmitted as part of exporting.
This website
These pages are static. There is no account, no sign-in, no advertising, no third-party analytics, and no cookie is set by us. The company that serves the pages may keep ordinary server logs, such as an IP address, a timestamp and the page requested, for security and reliability, in the same way every web host does.
If you write to us, either through the form on the support page or to the support address, we receive your message and whatever you choose to put in it, normally your name, an email address to reply to, and a description of your problem. It is used for one purpose, which is answering you. It is kept only until your issue is resolved and is then deleted, and it is never sold, rented or shared with anyone for marketing or for any other purpose.
A message sent through the form is delivered to us by the company that hosts this site, acting on our behalf, and that company is the only party besides us that handles it. Nothing you send is used to build a profile, and the form sets no cookie and carries no tracking script.
You never need to send anything from inside the app to get help, and we will never ask you to.
Age
LottoSelect is not directed at children. It is intended for people of legal age to purchase lottery tickets in their province.
Your choices
Because we hold nothing about you, there is nothing for you to request, correct or ask us to delete. Your information is in your hands: you can view it, export it, or remove it at any time from within the app, and removing the app removes it entirely.
If you have written to support and would like your message deleted before your problem is resolved, ask and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted on this page with a new date.
